This Land is Our Land!
Happy New Year and welcome to 2012! We are excited to share with you that it is now official - Sequoia Community Church owns land! We thank God for His incredible grace and provision in securing this strategic property for us in the centre of Barrhaven. In December, City Hall approved the sale of the land and our environmental assessment came back clean so we have waived our conditions on the purchase, making us the proud owners of 7.4 acres located on Greenbank Rd. God is so gracious and we thank Him for His incredible favour to us as a church!
The property contains two parcels of land with different closing dates but we have secured both pieces. We will pay the $689,000 for the 1.7 acres (red section) in May of 2012 and we will pay the remaining $1.4M in 2014 for the 5.7 acres (green section). We currently have most of the funds needed for the May closing date (from our previous Possess the Land campaign - PTL) but we will need to raise an additional $155,000 to finalize the purchase. We have an additional three years, till 2014, to generate the remaining funds required, including money to build Phase 1 of our multi-purpose facility. It will be exciting to see how the Lord provides all that is needed to make this dream come to fruition.
On January 17th we will be launching a new visionary sermon series based on the book of Nehemiah called Building Walls to Restore Lives. This 7-week series will set the backdrop for why we want to build a multi-purpose building, highlighting our desire to see lives restored for Jesus Christ. As a church we exist to help people Connect to God, Grow with Others, and Serve the World, where we proclaim and demonstrate the gospel so people are restored into right relationship with Jesus Christ. During this series we will be unfolding our Building Walls to Restore Lives capital campaign, where we will share multiple ways for you to get involved in seeing this vision become a reality. It is going to be a very exciting season as we trust God for the next steps in this journey.
Many thanks to everyone who has sacrificed in the past through the PTL campaign and to all those who have worked hard to see us on the land, because your efforts are bearing fruit for the Kingdom. Going forward we will all need to sacrifice and trust God to make this vision come to past, but God is faithful to do “immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine” (Eph. 2:10), as we put our faith in Him. I believe God is building His church and He promises that Sequoia will be both “a symbol and a source of blessing” (Zech. 8:13) because it is “not by might, nor by power, but by [His] spirit”, says the Lord. (Zech. 4:6).
We will be sharing much more information in the days to come. It is great to have you on this exciting journey.
Blessings, Pastor Ryan
