Over the next number of weeks at Sequoia we are going to spend time looking at the words of Jesus recorded in Matthew chapter 5-7. Scholars call this section of the Bible, the Sermon on the Mount and we are calling the sermon series The King’s Speech, because Jesus as the King is laying a foundation for the characteristics of His Kingdom. Early on in this sermon Jesus makes the statement to his hearers “You are the salt of the earth…you are the light of the world…let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13,14,16) This is a rally cry to all those who believe that Jesus is the King, to live in a way where others see the difference that our relationship with Christ makes. At Sequoia we are committed to help people Connect to God, Grow with Others, and Serve the World, where serving the world means we proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel message. Simply put, we will be a people of God who actively share our faith through word and deed to those in our community.
In the next number of weeks we have an opportunity to put our faith into action. The Feet to Faith ministry is looking for people willing to help as cleaners, painters, plumbers, electricians, and meal organizers for volunteers, on Friday & Saturday, May 13 & 14th, May 20 & 21 and May 27-28 if needed. This is an opportunity to share your faith by helping someone who is in need. To volunteer for a time slot contact Donna B. at donnab@sequoiachurch.org.
On May 29th we are once again hosting our Party in the Parking Lot as an outreach to our community. This is a great opportunity to invite family, friends, neighbours, and others from our community to celebrate with us. We will enjoy a shortened service that day followed by a free lunch, Fun Cruiser snacks, fun and games for all. It is also a great opportunity to have the whole church involved in making this outreach happen. To sign up to help, click on the Party in the Parking Lot website link under the Serve the Neighbourhood tab or check the announcements. The Party in the Parking Lot is a great non-threatening event to bring someone who doesn’t normally attend church. Pick up some invitations cards and commit to hand these invitations out on your street, to friends and colleagues, and to others you know that need Jesus! If everyone brought 1 person we would have over 500 people on May 29th – now that would be a party!
This is our opportunity to once again be a community church that loves to reach out to the community with the love of Jesus. I’ll see you there as you put feet to your faith and party in the parking lot.
Blessings, Pastor Ryan
