An Eventful Year

It has been a very eventful year for us as a church at Sequoia and I am so thankful to God for His amazing grace! God promises to build His church and it never ceases to amaze me that He uses us in the process. When I look back on our year as a Sequoia family, I see how God has empowered His people to do His work, and we give Christ the glory for all that has happened.

Here are a few highlights to note: We made a successful transition in our leadership, with Pastor Rick stepping down as the Lead Pastor to pursue the vision of the Eastern Canada Mission Centre, and me taking over the LP reigns. We changed our Sunday service location to the Ottawa Christian School, after 10 years at Mother Teresa. We recalibrated our purpose and process, establishing that Sequoia exists to help people Connect to God, Grow with Others, and Serve the World, building on our history and DNA as a church. We rebranded our website and 10:10 service to update our look. We re-prioritized our children and youth ministries adding a monthly youth service, youth mentoring, a gym night, as well as increasing the safety and security of children’s ministry. We engaged in numerous ways within our community through service projects and celebration. We positioned ourselves to continue our strong partnership in the Dominican Republic, planning another mission trip, and we established a plan to plant two multi-site churches, one in English and one in French in 2011.

But most importantly we have seen God change lives. People have come to Christ, been baptized, taken faith steps, grown into Christ-likeness, served with passion, received healing, shared with a friend, and seen God’s grace and provision in multiple ways. God is faithful to build His church!

I am so grateful to serve alongside you at Sequoia. We are truly blessed as a people. May the Lord reveal Himself to you in new and wonderful ways this Christmas and may you continue to grow as a multiplying disciple of Jesus.

On behalf of our staff team I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Blessings, Pastor Ryan
