Prayer

At Sequoia we understand prayer to be the lifeblood of our relationship with God. We see prayer as an on-going conversation with our Heavenly Father where we as followers of Christ have the privilege of communicating with God through Adoration (praising God for His holiness and majesty), Confession (being honest about our failings), Thanksgiving (thanking God for His goodness and grace), and Supplication (sharing about our needs and the needs of others). Prayer is as much a disposition of the heart as it is an activity that we engage in as believers. There are times for corporate prayer and individual prayer. There are multiple ways to be involved in prayer at Sequoia:

The Upper Room. We have a designated prayer room at our Church Office for individuals and groups to use to spend some time communing with God in an interactive and experiential way. The inner room is a place for quietness and contemplation where the cross is central. The outer room
, equipped with maps and pictures helps us shift our focus to the mission that God calls us to as His followers. You are welcome to use the prayer room for personal or group prayer by simply making an appointment with the staff to ensure the office is open.

After Service Prayer. If you would like to pray with someone about a particular need after our Sunday worship service, our prayer team will be available in the Library following the service for this purpose. The staff team is also available on Sunday to pray with you and you can feel free to email the staff if you have prayer concerns throughout the week.

Corporate Prayer. In our small groups and journeys we make prayer a priority, spending time each time we gather to seek the Lord. We believe there is power when “two or three are gathered in Jesus’ name.” We also want to grow in our dependence on God as we serve and minister inside and outside the walls of the church so we take time as teams to gather in prayer when we are ministering.  Men gather for prayer every Wednesday morning at the church office from 6-7:00am and several of the men go for breakfast to a nearby restaurant afterwards.  For information on Men's Prayer contact Derek at derek_schroeder@rogers.com. There is also a group of women  (Chicks Who Pray) who commit to pray weekly and meet together monthly to pray for specific requests relating to the church, their families and their neighbours. For more information or to join this prayer group please email Jennifer at stirlings@xplornet.com.
