Serving the World
At Sequoia Community Church our heart is to be faithful to the Great Commission to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28: 18-20) and to be “witnesses for Christ” (Acts 1:8) by proclaiming and demonstrating the love of God in tangible ways. We are committed to Serving the World through our partnerships with like-minded international organizations as we engage in global mission initiatives in North America and beyond.
Missions Montellano
Sequoia Community Church first connected with the people of Montellano, Dominican Republic located twenty minutes from Puerto Plata, through the child sponsorship program of Compassion Canada. After several sponsorship tours and leadership missions, Sequoia entered a church-to-church partnership with Iglesia Templo Biblico in 2010, a church in the village of Montellano. As this par
tnership has grown, our primary focus has been to provide support to the local church, assisting them with community development projects; Sunday school, outreach and holding them close in prayer. We also continue to support and partner alongside Compassion Canada, with our church sponsoring over sixty children in the DR.
In the past two years, we have been able to support a young missionary in the field, who has taken a role as a liaison and coordinator for our mission trips and efforts in Montellano. Mission teams in 2011 were able to build two homes for single mothers in response to the request of the local church. To view a video of the 2011 build,

As we seek God’s guidance and take direction from community leaders, our desire is to continue to support their work within this region of the Dominican Republic. To view our blog click here.
Partnering with The Canadian National Baptist Convention
As a church, we have also had amazing opportunities to partner with the CNBC in missions initiatives. Sequoia has been active for the past six years in the Disaster Relief Ministry of the North American Mission Board and our convention. We have sent teams to New Orleans after Katrina, to Frenchville, Maine, New England, Cameron, Louisiana and McDonough, Georgia to provide recovery and rebuild for victims of flooding.
Currently, the missions committee is exploring how Sequoia can be involved in supporting a Cuban pastor and where God might be leading us to partner with this CNBC mission project. For more information click here.
