Serving at Sequoia
Jesus said He came to serve and not be served. What’s good enough for Jesus is good enough for us! At Sequoia, there are a variety of serving opportunities that will help you truly understand what giving yourself away is really about. At Sequoia, we believe that each of us will be called to serve in both a primary and secondary ministry. There is always a great need for people who are committed to work both where there is need and in their area of gifting. Check out some of the ministries that are just waiting for someone like you. To volunteer or to inquire about a serving opportunity email Donna Boisvert at donnab@sequoiachurch.org.
Set Up & Tear Down
Sequoia is a portable church that has been setting up and tearing down each Sunday for twelve years. There is always need every Sunday for volunteers to arrive early or stay late to transform Ottawa Christian School into our church.
Foyer Staging & Coffee
Coffee and fellowship are a big part of how Sequoia begins and ends our services. Join our committed team of volunteers who transform the foyer at OCS into our coffee house each Sunday.
Greeting
There is nothing better than a warm smile and handshake to make someone feel at home! There are two teams of greeters that serve alternate Sundays to help prepare hearts for worship and fellowship on Sundays at Sequoia.
Welcome Centre
Visiting a church for the first time can be a little overwhelming. Our volunteers at the Welcome Centre help to direct newcomers and familiarize them with how things work at Sequoia.
Fellowship
Sequoia loves to celebrate and there is opportunity for those who love to organize, decorate, prepare and serve food at church functions. We encourage everyone to contribute to our Celebration Sundays, but we are always looking for those who are dedicated to serving in a specific area of the fellowship ministry.
Kids' Ministry
Volunteers are required every Sunday working within a rotation to serve as helpers, teachers and support for our children’s programs. Certain qualifications and an application process are required to serve in this area.
Youth Ministry
Our youth ministry is a great place to serve for the young at heart. Volunteers are always needed to assist with our youth programming, act as mentors, provide snacks, coordinate activities and provide administrative support. Certain qualifications and an application process are required to serve in this area.
Worship Team
Sequoia’s worship team is always looking for new talent who have a heart to worship and serve the Lord. This ministry teams with the other Worship ministries to prepare the hearts of the church to hear from God. Through song and instrumentals, they set a tone for the service and teach spiritual truth through music. They are all skilled musicians with instruments and/or voice. They are automatically a member of the setup and tear down team on the days they serve. Because of the visual presence before the people, standards of personal commitment to following the Lord are high. An application and audition process are required to serve in this area.
Media & Tech Team
There is opportunity for those who have experience in audio/visual presentations to be part of our Media & Tech team on Sunday mornings. This ministry teams with the other Worship ministries to display the song words, bible passages, images and
video on the big screen and to bring sound to the church. In some ways, this team acts as a worship leader using the images and sound to set a tone for the service. The team member receives the information from the different contributors to the service and puts it all together in the 2 days prior to the event. During the event, the media person advances the slides to ensure that timing and content are correct. The Tech team runs the sound board and ensures that all audio equipment is functioning normally. These team members are automatically part of the setup and tear down crew for the Sundays they serve.
